Indigo Boro Wall Hanging


Early Showa period Japanese folkart hanging.  Patched together from an old indigo workers haori, featuring rich indigo hues and rudimentary sashiko stitching.

This is a vintage Japanese Haori.  It has been repaired and patched together to form a folkart hanging.  This practise originates from provincial Japan in the poorer rural communities where old indigo cotton clothes were salvaged and repurposed.  They are considered treasures and part of the rich world of boro.
