Japanese Kokeshi dolls originated in the north-eastern region of Japan during the Edo period. They were originally designed as children’s toys but later became a popular souvenir for travellers visiting the onsen hot springs in the Tohoku region.
Tsugaru Style Kokeshi Doll’s are made in the Tsugaru district of the Aomori prefecture, Often featuring clinched waists, bobbed hair, and are carved from a single piece of wood.
