A beautiful Seto ware hand-crafted Japanese Kogo, Shachihoko (mythological beasts with tiger-like heads and piscine bodies, said to be capable of controlling rain and therefore associated with protection from fire) shape incense containers to be used before the tea ceremony to purify the air and welcome guests.
Artist: Sekizan Kawamura (河村碩山) [real name Kawamura Sekiyo (河村碩男)]. Born in 1938, he has won numerous awards and accolades.
