Japanese Stone Komainu, Shi Shi, Guardian Lions

A rare pair of intricately carved Japanese komainu, shi shi, or guardian lions. These mythical half dog half lion statues are used to protect and guard the entrance to Shinto shrines. Made from solid granite, Early 20th century.
